Vegetables and fruit are often sprayed with pesticides and chemicals not only while they’re growing in the field or greenhouse, but also after they’re picked. And while the benefits of eating fruits and vegetables far outweighs the risk posed by the chemicals on them, it's important to reduce your exposure to unwanted chemicals and germs by doing a good job of washing your produce.
You don’t need to buy a costly detergent from the health food store. You can make your own veggie wash using Grapefruit Seed Extract or lemon juice and sea salt.
Here’s the procedure step by step:
1 |
Place your fresh fruit or vegetables into a bowl of clean water. |
|
2 |
Add 2-5 drops of Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE) or the juice of 1 whole lemon and 2 tbsp of celtic sea salt |
|
3 |
If using lemon & salt, stir gently until all the salt is dissolved. |
|
4 |
Let the produce soak for 15-20 minutes. |
|
5 |
Rinse the produce well and enjoy! |
|
Tip: You can reuse the water in the bowl for additional fruits or vegetables.
