Mormonism and the New Age
Summary:
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, also known as the Mormon church, teaches false doctrines about God and humanity.
Mormonism and Human Divinity
Mormonism began in the mid-19th century—a critical time in history when God was giving the message of the end time to His people. As with many other religions, Mormonism has fallen to Satan’s twin lies of human divinity and immortality. The Mormon canonical book Doctrine and Covenants states this:
Ye were also in the beginning with the Father…Man was also in the beginning with God. Intelligence, or the light of truth, was not created or made, neither indeed can be.i
Brigham Young, the great 19th-century Mormon leader, writes this:
I do not blame Mother Eve, I would not have had her miss eating the forbidden fruit for anything in the world.ii
This idea that humankind’s fall was a positive event is foundational in Mormonism:
Adam fell that men might be; and men are, that they might have joy (2 Nehpi 2:22-25).
Under Christ Adam yet stands as head…Adam fell, but he fell in the right direction. He fell toward the goal. Adam fell, but he fell upward. Jesus says to us, “come up higher.”iii
Mormonism, Catholicism, and New Age Doctrine
New Age teaching supports the same theory about the first sin:
[The Fall] was an evolutionary advance and perfect growth, but it was experienced as a Fall because it necessarily carried an increase in guilt, vulnerability and knowledge of mortality and finitude. By eating from the Tree of Knowledge, not only did men and women realize their already mortal and finite state, they realized they had to leave Eden’s subconsciousness and begin the actual life of true self-conscious responsibility…They did not get thrown out of the Garden of Eden; they grew up and walked out. (Incidentally, for this courageous act, we have to thank Eve, not blame.)iv
Surprisingly, this same theology can also be found in a common Catholic Easter chant:
O truly necessary sin of Adam, which the death of Christ has blotted out! O happy fault, that merited such and so great a Redeemer!v
The doctrine of justification by works is also found in Catholicism and Mormonism. Founding Mormon Joseph Smith said this:
One of the most pernicious doctrines ever advocated by man is the doctrine of “justification by faith alone”, which has entered into the hearts of millions since the days of the so-called “reformation”.vi
Why do Catholicism, the New Age, and Mormonism all teach the same false doctrine? Could it be that they all stem from a common source?

Other False Teachings
Mormon doctrine is rife with other falsehoods such as these: Adam was God (Doctrine of Covenants section 27, verse 11); some sins are atoned for by sinner's blood only (Journal of Discourses volume 4, page 53); Jesus was born in Jerusalem (Book of Mormon, Alma 7:10); and Christ was married to Mary, Martha, and others (Journal of Discourses volume 2, pages 81-82).
